ectomycorrhiza
‘Ecto’ meaning ‘outside’. Mycorrhizal fungi usually form symbiotic relationships with their partner by penetrating the the roots. Ectomycorrhiza fungi on the other hand form an intercellular interface called the Hartig net covering the roots surface.
